Premium College Football Picks Week 13

    Updated: November 25th, 2010

    Ohio State -17 over Michigan

The Buckeyes have rolled it up against lesser defenses all year. Michigan’s is as “lesser” as it gets in the Big Ten and Pryor will exploit the Wolverine defense early with some big plays while Herron puts the game away with second half runs. Deonard Robinson has had trouble against the better defenses in the Big Ten and now goes against the fastest defense that they have faced all year. I see the Buckeyes opening this one early and adding to the lead with Herron. Ohio State has only one game to make a statement to voters, not that they need any more incentives while playing their rival.

    Toledo -4 over Central Michigan

Adonis Thomas should have a huge day running the ball against the poor run defense of Central Michigan. Toledo is tough in the Glass Bowl and they are looking to make a bowl game. Central Michigan has two weeks to prepare but they are only playing for pride.

    Minnesota +14.5 over Iowa

I’m going with the theory that Iowa has played down to its competition level of late and the season has been a bust. Now after a tough loss at home to Ohio State, they play lowly Minnesota who will be pumped to play the Hawkeyes.

Penn State +1 1/2 over Michigan State

The improving Lions get a Michigan State that has not been as impressive on the road and in the second half of the season. Michigan State lost their best pass rusher to injury and struggles to get pressure without blitzing. Penn State’s offensive line provides good pass protection so the young QB should be able to avoid mistakes. Sparty has gotten into the habit of getting down early and rallying. This will not happen on the road at Happy Valley.

    Auburn + 3 1/2 over Alabama

Auburn takes their unbeaten streak into Tuscaloosa as a 4 1/2 point underdog to the Alabama Crimson Tide. This will be a game for men only as it will be a war from start to finish. As good as Alabama is they have still been beaten by the two of the three best SEC teams in LSU and South Carolina albeit on the road. Auburn handled both of those teams and made a good LSU defense look like they just learned how to play the game. I realize that Alabama has a good offense and Auburn will struggle to stop them but as I have written before they get tougher as the game gets into the 4th quarter and they are rested. Alabama will jump on them early and Auburn will have to get through the first ten minutes without too much damage being done. If they can manage that they will win this game going away as they are still unstoppable on offense. I like Auburn to win outright.

    LSU + 3 1/2 over Arkansas

I think LSU matches up well against Arkansas it what looks like a tight game that will be decided in the final minutes. If that is the case I like LSU’s chances because of their success in close contests and also Arkansas’ lack of success. Take LSU as they remain with one loss.

NC State – 2 over Maryland

I watched Maryland last week and I was not impressed. They lost their ACC Atlantic division title hopes last week against Florida State and now face NC State who will win with a victory on Saturday. Can’t see NC State losing here as they have everything to play for and Maryland has nothing to play for as they are bowl eligible but not going to the ACC championship. Take NC State and lay the 2 points.

Ole Miss +3 over MIss State

Ole Miss has disappointed this year and Miss State has overachieved. That being said this is more of a war than a football game and Ole Miss will give it everything they’ve got to have something to hang their hat on for the year. They have played pretty well of late but Miss State will be able to control the ball. Ole Miss will win this game with the big play on offense where the bulldogs have been susceptible of late. Take the 3 points.

Pittsburgh -2 1/2 over West Virgiinia

West Virginia’s offense struggles to score points. The Pitt defense, playing at home, playing on grass, should be able to control the Mountaineers. Pitt’s offense has playmakers that can strike any time. In this huge rivalry, I expect Pitt to be more physical at the point of attack and wear down the West Virginia defense.
