This Beat may not be as bad as some others of recent memory but because CollegeFootballBreakdown.com had given out the over as a 4 star play (We hit our other two) it definitely feels like the Bad Beat of the Week.  In the California-Washington game (total of 58 1/2) the score at halftime was 21-20 Washington on top.  Both teams were moving the ball through the air at will.  Needing only 18 points in the second half the over looked like a certainty.  But what happened, Washington played it conservative by only passing on third downs and California went on 8 minute drives eating up the clock. Both teams were really never stopped by the opposing defenses.  The tough beat came when California, trailing 31-23, started their last drive of the game with very little time remaining.   Cal QB Maynard found a wide open receiver on a wheel route that put the ball at the 2 yard line with four attempts to get two yards.  A better pass would have been 6. Instead, it was first and goal at the 2 with fourt chances to get in. All the over needed was a td, the two point conversion was irrelevant.  What happened, a goal line stand by Washington to win the game.  The total lands on 54.  960 yards of total offense but only 54 points.

P.S. The reference to McConaughy is because of his role in Two for the Money.
