  • Petrino snubs Miles after LSU victory

For those who watched the 41-17 LSU victory over Arkansas to the end saw the head coach of the Arkansas Razorbacks snub LSU coach Les Miles at the mandatory hand shake after the game.  Why did this happen? Two reasons. One, LSU tried aggressively tried to score via the pass late in the game while LSU was up 38-17.  Two, LSU kicked a field goal on 4th and inches rather than going for it and most likely running out the clock without scoring.  At midfield after the game, it was obvious that Miles may have commented to Petrino that “I needed all the BCS points I could get in case we lose to Georgia in the SEC Championship Game.”  Apparently, by Petrino’s response, it was not a valid excuse.

    Here’s the funny part

When Bobby Petrino was the head coach at Louisville he immediately became known by this reader as a head coach that really enjoyed running up the score on his opponenents, specifically when playing rival Kentucky.  The high powered Louisville offense would continually pass very late in games to run up scores embarrassing their opponents.  In one game against Kentucky, I remember Petrino called a timeout while Louisville was up by more than a touchdown and Kentucky had no time outs left. With less than 10 seconds left and the clock running, Petrino rushed to call a time out since Lousville had the ball inside the 5 yard line and Petrino wanted to run up the score. On the next play, Louisville scored a td to add to Kentucky’s pain in a truly classless act.  Petrino was not doing this for any BCS rankings.  He wanted to make a statement to a rival and bloat the score.  That move and several others by Petrino while at Louisville had me thinking, “someday, he’s gonna have that happen to him.”

So please do not feel any sadness for poor Bobby Petrino.  If you are any believer in the theory that “what goes around, comes around,” it was just a matter of time.  Les Miles had a valid excuse for his aggressiveness. What were your excuses Bobby?
