Illinois still looking for Bowl Eligibility

The long season is almost over and the Fighting Illini need one more win to become bowl eligible. This week they tussle with the Northwestern Wildcats who come off their upset victory over the Hawkeyes last week. But this week Dan Persa is out with a season ending injury.

Illinois’ defense has been a little more vulnerable of late perhaps due to the fact that the defensive line is getting a little tired after a stellar season. The offense continues to improve on the back of Freshman QB Scheelhaase’s grasping of the offense. Northwestern’s Dan Persa had amazed with his ability to escape and find open receivers. I don’t know what the Wildcat offense would have been like without him. On defense, Northwestern won’t impress you with their physicality or speed, but they play well as a team and Coach Fitz has taught them well.
The battle between the Northwestern offensive line and the Illini defensive line should determine the outcome of this one. If Corey Liuget and company can force Dan Persa’s backup’s hand early expect the speedy Illinois linebackers to get some sacks off the scrambles. If not, expect a high scoring affair with the winner going to whoever has it last in this neutral site battle.
