Texas bleeds Red in Oklahoma rivalry
Dallas-Oklahoma, behind the passing of Landry Jones and an opportunistic defense crushed the Longhorns, 55-17 in what usually is a very competitive game where both sides have studied their opponents strengths and weaknesses.
Landry Jones was 31-50, 367yards, 3 tds and most importantly zero interceptions. The quick strike, up-tempo offense held the ball only 22 minutes and still won by 38 points because of 3 defensive return touchdowns (2 Pick 6s, 1 fumble return td). The youth of the Texas team really showed on both offense and defense. On offense, ball security is a clear mandate when going up against the Sooners. Texas’ youth at QB showed throwing passes into tight windows that backfired for them. The Sooners shut down the running game of the Longhorns which put too much pressure on Sooner QBs to make plays. On defense, Jones found open holes in the Texas zone by hitting WR Ryan Broyles (9, 122yds, 1td) and WR Kenny Stills (5,51yds, 2tds). On offense, Texas moved the ball spuraticly with most of the yards coming in between the 30′s but only ammassed 259 yards of total offense while holding the ball for 37 minutes. At every key moment of the game, it was the Sooners who were more explosive and the Longhorns did not have the athletes to prevent those big plays.
